Ah, TikTok. Whether it be the dance trends or the drama that comes from the platform, it has become an industry standard. Most of the big influencers on TikTok are Gen Z, but some people don\u2019t realize\u00a0that TikTok can be utilized by anybody of any age, especially<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0musicians.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Here are some tips for anyone who wants some help getting started on TikTok or who to look up to!<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

Utilize Hashtags – Especially Trending Ones!<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

\u00a0Hashtags help group videos on TikTok and other forms of social media and show them to people interested in that type of content. For artists, there is the #musiciansoftiktok hashtag, the #band hashtag, or many others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally, the trending hashtags on TikTok change daily, so do your research on what tag is most popular to add to your caption before posting! As you can see below, trending tags such as #TheGirlNextDoor and #BunniesofTikTok appear in the “suggested searches” feature when you click your search bar.<\/p>\n

For every 3-4 music or content-related hashtags you use, try to pull ONE trending hashtag relevant to your video.<\/p>\n

Keep Up With Trends<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

One of the main things that big TikTok ers utilize is trends. These usually have to do with dances, viral sounds, or pranks, but some trends heavily involve musicians. They include posting covers of popular songs, writing your own lyrics over an instrumental, or singing a duet with another creator on TikTok. Check out this example<\/u><\/a><\/strong><\/span> of Dustin Phillips (@thedustinphillips) providing the instrumentation and harmonies behind someone singing \u201cI Want it That Way\u201d by the Backstreet Boys. <\/span><\/p>\n

You can also utilize trends by putting your own spin on the sound that people are using, as Dustin did in the video below. By making your own original sound, people will be able to use it in their videos and gain you more exposure. It\u2019s a great way to show your creativity and engage with popular sounds as a musician! Maddie Zahm (@maddiezahms) asked followers to duet a clip of her newest song and share how they related to her lyrics. It was a simple request that garnered a lot of attention. TikTok is just like any other social media site; it has an algorithm. One thing that helps people get on more users\u2019 for you pages is having a consistent posting schedule. If you post at least two or three times a week and stay active on your account, TikTok will be more likely to promote your content.<\/span><\/p>\n

People are just on TikTok to see fun, original content from people who have some sort of passion for what they do.
