{"id":31348,"date":"2025-01-22T20:10:56","date_gmt":"2025-01-22T20:10:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cyberprmusic.com\/?p=31348"},"modified":"2025-01-22T22:13:03","modified_gmt":"2025-01-22T22:13:03","slug":"artist-community-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cyberprmusic.com\/artist-community-building\/","title":{"rendered":"From Buzz to Bond: A Musician\u2019s Guide to Thriving in 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<header><\/header>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Happy 2025 &#8211; WTF<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mi.edu\/in-the-know\/resources-support-affected-los-angeles-fires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wildfires<\/a> in California, Norovirus raging through major cities, a domestic terrorist attack followed by snowball fights on Bourbon Street, a polarizing inauguration, a deep freeze on the East Coast, and TikTok (here for now, but seemingly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalworld.com\/us\/news\/how-tiktok-changed-after-us-ban-blackout-censorship-4952093\" class=\"broken_link\">censoring <\/a>content)\u2014this brings us to the realization that no matter how much time and energy we invest in online platforms, if you don\u2019t control your narrative, it can all disappear.<\/p>\n<p>Helping musicians step into a world where more music is released in one day than entire years in the past is daunting. These are the thoughts keeping me up at night.<\/p>\n<p>But there is something that has been making me feel hopeful.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>CONNECTION.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Musicians Have Been Focusing Energy On The Wrong Things<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the obsession to get \u201cas many people as possible\u201d to hear our music, we\u2019ve caused a frenzy I call Buzz Marketing. While necessary for perception, it\u2019s not great for true connection.<\/p>\n<h3>Examples of Buzz Marketing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Catching TikTok algorithms<\/li>\n<li>Gunning for Spotify playlists<\/li>\n<li>Getting crazy over every Spotify track hitting 1K plays<\/li>\n<li>Radio promotion<\/li>\n<li>Wasting precious asks on PreSave campaigns<\/li>\n<li>Purchasing Meta and YouTube Ads without a retargeting strategy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Why TikTok Isn\u2019t and Has Never Been Enough<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Platforms like TikTok, while entertaining, don\u2019t foster real community for most musicians. TikTok is a self-described &#8220;entertainment platform,&#8221; not one that facilitates deep human connections. Even getting 1 million plays may not translate to finding a true superfan\u2014the kind of loyal following artists must cultivate.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">The Decline of Small Independent Music Venues<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>People no longer want the same old experience: a 45-minute set in a club. Rising food, labor, and rent costs, combined with changing habits, have made this model unsustainable. Venues that once thrived are now struggling to stay afloat.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">The Rise of Immersive Experiences<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At the same time, people are still willing to spend big money on immersive events, such as Taylor Swift\u2019s tour. These mega-events offer a sense of community, connection, and something genuinely memorable. This points to a crucial shift artists must embrace in 2025 and beyond.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Fostering Genuine Connection Through Artist Community Building<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Rather than chasing the next viral TikTok moment or spending money on Meta, smart artists will invest in building real-life communities. These could be meetups, workshops, retreats, or other immersive experiences that foster genuine human connection.<\/p>\n<p>Artist community building moves beyond nights of music to create meaningful shared experiences<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">The Opportunity for Artists<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>We are all craving a sense of community and belonging that the digital world has failed to provide. By tapping into this need, artists can build a sustainable, engaged fanbase far beyond buzz. This is what I call Bond Marketing.<\/p>\n<h3>Examples of Bond Marketing<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Focusing on one fan at a time<\/li>\n<li>Building and using your <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/cyberprmusic.com\/call-to-action-10-ways-to-grow-one-gigantic-mailing-list-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">email list<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Meeting music industry influencers IRL<\/li>\n<li>Creating or joining a <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/cyberprmusic.com\/your-mastermind-group-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mastermind group<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li>Leaving thoughtful, interactive comments on socials<\/li>\n<li>Attending <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cyberprmusic.com\/music-conferences-networking-2020-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">music conferences<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">A New Vision for 2025 and Beyond<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Executing this vision will require a shift in mindset and strategy. But the payoff could be enormous. In a world that feels increasingly isolated, the power of real human connection should never be underestimated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Focus on building a community. That\u2019s where the real magic happens.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">My Urgent Call to Action<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Stop grieving TikTok\u2019s limitations. Get together in a room with real people\u2014other artists. Have a salon. Get out and <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/cyberprmusic.com\/musicians-guide-networking-real-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">meet people<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. Reset together. Talk about what you\u2019re doing. Play music for one another.<\/p>\n<p>Artist community building offers a path forward to ensure musicians and their fans stay connected, inspired, and engaged in 2025 and beyond.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Invite five people to go bowling, have a beer, or sample tea.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Take a walk in a museum, around town or in a local park<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h4><strong>Be with people. Play music. Share ideas. Look at art. Get inspired.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Figure out how meaningful real-life communications can ripple out. Change 2025 by getting closer, not farther away from each other.<\/p>\n<p>This is my call to arms for all of us\u2014musicians and industry alike.
